The main purpose of the study unit is to help us understand the origin of the universe better and why Earth is such a great place for life to flourish. We went into an interesting theory known as “The Big Bang Theory” which basically explains that all of life started because of the universe being extremely dense and at a hot point and from there on just kept expanding. Cosmic microwave background radiation provides a lot of evidence to show that the Big Bang did in fact happen, it also tells us about the remnant heat in the early years of the universe. Then there’s those redshifted galaxies that show even more accurate evidence that the universe is expanding. Light elements like hydrogen and helium provides evidence towards the Big Bang Theory because their quantities are predicted. We also explored why Earth is sort of the Goldilocks Planet, meaning, it is just right in terms of distance and temperature from the Sun. Earth has liquid water, stable climate conditions, the ideal atmosphere which make it a great place to support life. Science relies on evidence the evidence provided and explains the big questions of why there is life on Earth based on what we've learned. This study unit allows us to determine where we fit in the universe and why Earth is a one of a kind planet compared to other planets. It also discusses how crucial balance is to continuing life and why we need to do everything we can to take care of our planet.

I enjoyed learning why they named Earth the Goldilocks Planet. It made me realize how unique our planet is for hosting life.

The difficult aspect is the scientific aspects that support the Big Bang Theory. It’s the cosmic microwave background radiation and the redshift, which are really complex.
