1) NWU offers the following recreation program
- residence league , recreational events, mind sports and nwu conditioning programmes
2) I looked at Harvard university, Stanford university and Princenton university
3) comparisons of the three universities
- the universities all have membership fees for joining or participating in a recreation program, their programmes foster inclusivity and diversity of cultures
4) Out of the 14 recreation programmes there are, North- west university focuses on recreational sports. The NWU recreational sports is committed to the development of a sustainable and diverse sport and recreation structure across all three campuses. This envisioned structure encourages participation, grows talent and contribute to the health and overall well- being of students and groups taking part.
I argue that the North-West university does not offer all of it’s student’s with leisure and recreation opportunities but rather focuses more on providing leisure and recreation opportunities for students who live on- campus. Students who do not stay on-campus are not aware of the leisure and recreation opportunities that the university offers and also the university does not do it’s best in including off- campus students on their programmes or students who are intrinsically motivated to participate in these programmes. Secondly, the university focuses on recreational sports only and truth be told not everyone is really into sports thus most students find themselves having nothing to do for leisure and recreation.
The North-west university offers recreational sports such as residence league, recreational events, mind sports, and NWU conditioning programme and strongly advocates the benefits of sports and recreation not only in terms of physical conditioning but also in terms of the positive impact it has on mental and emotional wellness. Recreational sports programmes provide students the opportunity to part take in residence leagues while providing them balance between their academic responsibilities and social interaction as they continue their education.
Recreational events such as, socials and SCRS bring people together providing opportunities for social interaction, contribute to higher levels of self- esteem and self- worth, build unity, create opportunities for and promote volunteering among students and lastly provide a vehicle for inclusion, drawing together people of different races, religions and cultures. The NWU conditioning programme focuses on improving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and it enhances the way students do physical activities in their daily lives. Students and staff take part to socialise and improve cultural intervention among diverse groups. These clubs are well known for “ being in it for the long run”, having a consistent approach and improving your flexibility and balance. Leisure and recreation experiences are important for students as they foster the development that will likely influence young adulthood.
