I grew up in a Xhosa tribe. I grew up in a family where they believed in traditional rituals such as "Imbekelo". I was surrounded by people with different cultures and norms. As I was growing up, I have learnt many things which then changed the way I think in my entire life. The teaching I got from my family we never washed clothes on Sunday or do any house chores, it was a normal thing that every Sunday we go to church. In our cultural tradition, it is customary for couples to begin their marital journey with a traditional wedding ceremony, followed by a white wedding celebration. It is allowed for a man to have many wives as he wants especially when you're a king in the society. Boys go to initiation schools, then when they come back it is expected for them to act different because they are no longer boys but men. I was thought by my family that a women can never enter a kraal without wearing long dress. These beliefs and norms have influenced the way we act in our society and the way we associate with other people. Men are expected to be more powerful and protect their families while women are expected to be strong and caring for their families and society.
