1.The main goal of Study Unit 1.1 was to help us understand how the universe began and why Earth is special in our solar system. I learned that the universe is huge and full of galaxies, stars, and planets. The Big Bang Theory explains that the universe started about 13.8 billion years ago and is still growing.
Our solar system is part of the Milky Way Galaxy. Earth is one of eight planets that move around the Sun. These planets are grouped into two types: rocky (terrestrial) and gas giants. Earth is called a “Goldilocks planet” because its conditions are just right for life.
I also learned about Kepler’s laws, which explain how planets move in oval-shaped paths (ellipses) around the Sun. Gravity and inertia work together to keep planets in orbit and stop us from floating away. The unit also showed how scientists like Copernicus, Galileo, and Newton helped us understand space better.
This knowledge matters because it helps us see how unique Earth is and prepares us to teach learners about space in a fun and meaningful way.
The part I enjoyed most was learning how Kepler’s laws use maths to explain how planets move. The hardest part was understanding the difference between perihelion and aphelion and remembering the exact dates and distances.
2. The study unit where it shows how scientific discoveries by Galileo, Newton, and others who shaped our understanding of space.
3.The Goldilocks zone.
