A hearty welcome to the module site for SOCY 211.

This module will serve as continuance as well as introduction to the varied social themes and social institutions in society. The main purpose of this module is to introduce you, as student, to the dynamic nature of the South African developmental context. In order to gain a better knowledge of the complex South African society and its diversity, development dynamics and continuing social and economic changes, it is essential for students who study this module to have a comprehensive understanding of the structure of and interaction within a society, as well as of the logic of social thinking. To further analyse and explain social phenomena, students need to master the theoretical perspectives and key concepts that are presented for this purpose.
