1. From the start of the Semester, I didn't really understand why is there a need to teach or integrate music in Foundation Phase. I always thought that such things are only done at musical schools. LSKM module really helped to change my perspective towards music in Foundation Phase. I now know how important it is as a teacher to use or rather integrate music with other subjects.

2.■ I learnt about my strengths and weaknesses, about what interests and challenges me. I was able to reflect on what I have learnt from the start of this Semester until now.

    ■Intergrating music other subjects especially Mathematics as a subject, was a bit difficult for me as I focused more on content than on using music to help learners understand the content more better.

  ■Yes, because I was able to examine my capabilities, know where I lack  and where to fix myself as an individual.

   ■ I woule change how I made some of the decisions and set my priorities right as to focus more on my weaknesses as well as challenges I faced in this module.

3.  ■What was really interesting for me was tip and tricks when planning a lesson focused on music and types of music activities for Foundation Phase learners (Study Unit 2) as well as Orff's creative process.

     ■Integrating music with other subjects was a bit challenging for me and almost the whole part of Study Unit 1 that talks about the value of music for the holistic development of Foundation Phase learners and how different music activities promote holistic development areas.

   ■ Everything that was taught in this module is very valuable as it will really help in my future teaching practise.

■Most important aspects when planning a lesson for Foundation Phase

● Lesson planning is a very important tool, one of the most important aspect is learning outcomes or objectives which outline skills and knowledge to be acquired by learners at the end of the lesson. Secondly, the lesson should include educational theories to help a teacher understand and know how to deal with different kinds of learners as we have auditory, visual and kinesthetic learners. Lesson plan in Foundation Phase should be learner-centered as learners construct their own meaning, starting with beliefs, understandings and bringing their own cultural practises to the classroom.

■Opinion about the value of utilising arts integration and play in Foundation Phase lesson.

I think it is very important as this approach benefit learners  as it encourages active play which provides advantages such as learning to express and identify emotions, gaining feelings of confidence and control. Through play, children are taught how to behave appropriately and form strong relationships. 

■Has my perception and priorities changed with regards to lesson planning and the inclusion of music?

Yes it has, because at first I did not think it was that important to include music in lesson planning, I was not aware of its advantages and benefits.
