Listening to and responding to music
7 Dec 2021, 06:41
Listening and responding is one of my good and fun public to teach lessons. There are many ways that learners can respond to music such as.
- Movement
A teacher can sing a learner's dance or move around. for example we have songs like follow .follow. follow. follow the leader when the teacher says follow follow follow the learners have to follow the leader where they are going
Listening and responding can help in managing a classroom for example when learners are going to the toilet you can sing follow follow follow follow the leader and the learners follow you the way you are moving that way you know you learn as you go to the toilet the way you want them to go and come back on time or for example when they are off from the assembly you can sing a song We Are marching in the light of God we are marching in the light of God then they will match to the classroom in.
- Drawing (draw what you think of when you hear the piece of music)
Songs such as old MacDonald had a farm eieio can help learners understand what a farm is that means they can be able to create or have a picture of what a farm is they can draw a farm you can draw animals that old MacDonald Had and that way they'll be able to understand when you teach them about animals different animals different farm animals
- Writing about it (how does the music make you feel/write a story based on the piece of music)
Learners can start to learn the difference of songs happy songs and sad songs this will help them in poetry when they go to high levels for example if a poetry it's a sad poetry they will know that the learner the poet was not in a good mood and if it was in a good mood that is if a song is a sad song we Don't Have to identify that this song was not good this song or the person was who was singing this song what's this song when they were not in a good space for example baby can you sleep now mummy is coming back she went to the farm to make some money for you the baby has to understand that the lenders have to understand that the mother is not around the mother went to the farm to make some money for the learner to have money for for the milk was the moral of the song is that the learner is able to identify the feelings of a singer.
- Comparing
We have songs like five little monkeys jumping on the bed one fell down and bumped his head mama called the doctor and the doctor said no more monkeys jumping on the bed this kind of songs can teach a learner that ok if the monkey did not jump on the bed it wasn't gonna pump the head so this helps learners in knowing how to compare.
Holistic development introduction

When we are talking about holistic development we are basically talking about the development of a child mentally, physically, emotionally and even socially. this helps to see if they can be able to face the day to day challenging demands .
We know children are unique in terms of what they prefer, value, their strengths and also weaknesses. Therefore the curriculum must help the children not to be disadvantaged based on their development or uniqueness.
