WHAT IS A LESSON PLAN?

A lesson plan is a detailed description of the instructional strategies and learning activities to be performed during the teaching/learning process.

WHAT TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN PLANNING A FOUNDATION PHASE LESSON

At the beginning and the end of the lesson there should be music.

play music with a specific aim.

guide learners in music listening.

use different teaching and learning techniques.

your lesson plan should have an introduction, teaching and learning phase, and a conclusion.

encourage learners to learn on their own

think of the assessment methods suitable for specific activities.

VALUE OF USING ART INTEGRATION

it helps learners to feel free to express their ideas and feelings. they develop all the senses through keen observation, curios explorations and spontaneous expression.

VALUE OF USING PLAY

play affords children the ability to improve their language, thinking , science, physical and social skills. having those skills their self-esteem improves.

What is art integration?

an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form.

importance of art integration

art integration is not a waste of time because, it helps the learner to have more focus, it emphasizes the fact that learners are unique. it helps learners to engage and gives them different ways to build and show understanding. it helps teachers to think again about the roles they play and how they relate with learners.

interesting

art integration helps learners to develop:

motor skills, inventiveness, creative problem-solving skills, language skills, social skills, decision-making skills and risk taking skills.

challenging

art integration is challenging because of:

schools rely on physical education classes and teachers to provide learners "the required units"

lack of formal dance training.

opportunities to integrate dance education in schools.

What is play?

a  play tells a story, usually on stage or on a screen, using dialogue. a play can be called straight play, may have music in the action, but the music does not actually tell a story.

what possibly made some learners uncomfortable during these activities?

during this activities, learners were taught the song phrase-by-phrase and the correct pronunciation  but words were not explained.

why were some learners uncomfortable?

the other learner was not happy because he did not understand Zulu, and the other learner was not comfortable with dancing in front of the boys and to house music due to religious reasons.

can you think of ways to address these issues in future? what will you change?

as a teacher, when using other languages in class, I will explain each and every word. select songs that all learners relate to and enjoy. accommodate all learners from different religions and encourage learners to be free towards one another.

how can we accommodate diverse learner profiles in our classrooms? what must we beware of?

provide visual, written and auditory reminders of assignments.

remove distractions

provide regular contact with parents

allow classroom movements.
