Study unit 5: lesson plan
8 Dec 2021, 13:51
Before anything else could take place in a classroom, or before a lesson, a lesson plan has to be completed. A lesson plan is a guideline to both the teacher and learners. The teacher is the one to complete a lesson plan. The first thing are the outcomes of a lesson. In a lesson plan you state the things you as a teacher would like or love to achieve and the outcomes that you want your learners to achieve. The outcomes will be looked at, at the end of the lesson to check whether all of them have been met or not and for those that aren't, there has to be another solution on how to over come them.
Other things to include in the lesson plan are questions about your learner that needs to be answered such as:
- How many are they in the classroom?
- They're weaknesses and their strengths?
- How disciplined are they?
-Are there any who have special needs?
These questions gives you a clearer and better picture to know and understand your learners, in that way the learning that'll take place during a lesson will be much easier.
Followed by mentioning the resources that are needed or are going to be used in a classroom (it can be resources that'll be used to make musical instruments for a music lesson). A lesson can be planned by using music. A teacher can use music to teach.
STUDY UNIT 3: MUSICAL PLAY IN THE FOUNDATION PHASE
8 Dec 2021, 09:58
The study unit is about nature and value of play in the foundation phase as well as how you can incorporate elements of play during music activities throughout the day in a foundation phase classroom.
We have seven elements of play
1. Play involves a state of mind and disposition
2. Play contains elements of surprise challenge
3. Play involves process, attitude and structure
4. Play is voluntary, unifying, forming parts of the socializing process.
5. Play reinforces societal roles
6. Play creates a formal space for socio-historical comment
7. Play involves aesthetic quality judgement by participants
During play learners can develop cognitively enabling them to solve problems in a classroom when given an activity either in a mathematical classroom or that requires them to think they also develop cognitive abilities. Play in classroom has several importance such as discipline, working together, creative spirits, imagination, having the ability to relate, transformation, develops sense and sensibilities. Foundation phase learners can respond well to different types of plays through music. There are also games that can be played in a classroom. A teacher can use a musical for a lesson. There can be resources used to make certain instruments during a lesson.
As foundation phase learners would be very pleased and very much happy with playing music in the classroom, the okay can be of an excellent use fir them to learn easily. They can either learn a certain so g for different activities in a classroom. Foundation phase learners don't easily forget that'll make it easier for them to adapt to any kind of play a teacher u troduces in a classroom.
STUDY UNIT 2: LISTENING TO AND RESPONDING TO MUSIC
8 Dec 2021, 09:30
The study music focuses on various music concepts and various types of music activities.
There are different music elements and the basic ones are:
-Duration (of tone)
-Pitch (of tone)
-Intensity (of tone)
-Quality (of tone)
-Texture
We also have Western orchestral instruments which are grouped into four families that are:
1. Strings
2. Woodwind
3. Percussion
4. Brass
The there are African instruments which are grouped according to how they produce sound. In the Foundation Phase there are different music activities such as singing, dancing ( moving to music), music games, listening to music, composition, conducting, playing instrument, body percussion, improvisation e,t,c. Music can be used in different ways to do many other different things. People have different way of listening to music. There are different kinds of genres and everyone has their own preferences, while others they respond well to and can respond well to it. Music can be used as an activity in a classroom. It can also blend well with other subjects fir different activities given.
Music has a big impact in our lives more especially during these recent times. Responding and listening to music in the classroom can be another fun way for learners. The soft melodies can make learners calm when they are feeling a bit overwhelmed either during a lesson or after the long hours of class.
Music has been a thing of the past, more and more instruments have been discovered and made by different people and cultures. Music is made with different beats, sounds, movements and languages. The body align itself well with music. Our brain can differentiate music based on how they sound.
SU 4: ART INTERGRATION
2 Oct 2021, 00:11
Art intergration is not a waste of time in the foundation phase. Art intergration increases knowledge of a general subject area while concurrently fostering a greater understanding and appreciation of the fine performing arts. Art intergration is also part of art education, it provides a better understanding of music and art. Children can have an insight of the art even outside the classroom. New skills and concepts are discovered. Children get exposed to other musical and art understanding abilities they never knew they had.
The aspect i found interesting in the study unit is the different ideas that were given about music intergration. The ideas were plenty and all of them were the best. They are very good to use for foundation phase learners as they are more understandable and provides more knowledge about music and art.
The aspect that was the most challenging in the study unit is the part of the theoretical framework for music intergration as I did not study it enough and need much more clarity and understanding about it. And also the different theories about the discovering of music in the olden days and how music started and came about. And how music and art connect with each other.
Week 3. SU 1
29 Aug 2021, 13:43
Today is the last day of the third week since the beginning of the first semester, and we are still on study unit 1 and on our last class with our SI she taught us about the musical development in the foundation phase which is the core subject of the study unit 1 and we spoke about different kinds of musical activities that learners can engage in which will help develop their cognitive, social, physical, personal development and more. Children are able to learn more during their music classes such as when they sing songs that include different language in it they are able to learn new language. During music play in the class, when they dance they are improving their physique. Learning other music that are from other different tribes also gives them an understanding of other people's cultures.
Unit 1 continued... Week 2
21 Aug 2021, 17:53
This is the second week, since the start of the study unit one and I am still as much excited as I was at the beginning of the first week and I am still looking forward to learning more about the module, inside and outside. As I continued studying and going through the study unit I learned about the two theories which are Vygotsky and Zone of Proximal development.
The theory of Vigotsky teaches about the importance of social interaction on the development of children and their interaction with individuals and their environments. Vigotsky opposed against Piaget that children learn by interacting with the world and their existing skills or knowledge. Vigotsky Zone of proximal development (ZPD) is the distance between the actual developmental level determined when a child has the ability to do things by themselves without an adult assistance and when they need help from an adult to complete a certain task.
First Week. Unit 1
15 Aug 2021, 22:53
This was the first week where we got to start our second semester and I have never been this excited as I am right now to be starting the second semester at the right track, as I could not the previous one and I believe this is my chance to prove my capability o making it through the semester and not feel left out. This week was okay, even though some days I had a few mile stones, but either way I pulled myself together. I have also went through study unit 1, where I got to learn and reflect on the different types of theories, about how foundation phase learners learn, behave and myself as student teacher should prepare myself for and what is also expected of me when I am officially a teacher. On how I can approach certain issues and build meaningful relationships with all my learners.
