Study unit 5: lesson planning
WHAT ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECTS TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN PLANNING FOUNDATION PHASE LESSONS?
1) Know who your students are. Knowability levels; backgrounds; interest levels; attention spans; ability to work together in groups; prior knowledge and learning experiences; special needs or accommodations; and learning preferences. This may not happen as quickly as you would like, but it is important for designing instruction that will meet the needs of your students. That's key to successful teaching and learning!
2) Know your content. It is important for you to research the subject matter that you will be teaching. You should also utilize curriculum guides published by the state in which you teach and the local school district that employs you. It is also a good idea to know the national standards and state standards that drive the curriculum in each subject area that you are responsible for. You can visit websites that are devoted to curriculum frameworks and that will give you a lot of information relative to your subject area. TeAch-nology.com has many links that will help you to search for information relative to the subject matter you are employed to teach
What is your opinion about the value of utilizing arts integration and play in foundation phase lessons?
Arts integration and play are extremely important for the development of social and creative thinking skills. Learners can have fun while learning and demonstrate their understanding in a practical setting
3. Have your perception and priorities with regards to lesson planning & inclusion of music (and the arts) throughout your teaching & learning in the foundation phase changed?
Yes, it allows learners to use art to demonstrate their understanding of the subject. Integrating music and art into the Foundation phase encourages learners to be actively engaged in the lesson while also assisting in the development of social and creative thinking skills. The use of music in the classroom increases learners' eagerness to learn.

Arts integration is an approach to teaching that integrates the fine and performing arts as primary pathways to learning. The goal of arts integration is to increase knowledge of a general subject area while concurrently fostering a greater understanding and appreciation of the fine and performing arts. Arts integration brings focus to the whole child and embraces the notion that all students are different. Arts integration engages students and offers a variety of ways to construct and demonstrate understanding.
Arts integration helps teachers rethink the roles they play and their relationships with students. Art instruction helps children with the development of motor skills, language skills, social skills, decision-making, risk-taking, and inventiveness. Visual arts teach learners about color, layout, perspective, and balance all techniques that are necessary for presentations (visual, digital) of academic work.

Study unit 3: music play in the foundation phase
what possibly made some learners uncomfortable during these activities?
Song choice, which was in Zulu, other learners were struggling with pronouncing and understanding it and the other one was religious/cultural barrier
Why were some learners uncomfortable?
Other learners were struggling to understand the language of the song while the other one found it challenging to dance in front of boys as it is not allowed in her culture.
Can you think of ways to address these issues in the future? What will you change?
Provide the necessary understanding of activities and translate songs to make sure that other learners get to understand what is being said and do background research on learners to accommodate their different home languages, cultural backgrounds, and religious beliefs.
How can we accommodate diverse learner profiles in our classrooms? What must we be aware of?
Highlight the diversity of your classroom to the learners, get to know your learners, and build relationships with them, removing distractions (seating, use of desk clocks). Providing cueing. Allowing classroom movement. Providing regular contact with parents. Providing visual, auditory, and written reminders of assignments, procedures, and tasks.
music concept

Study unit 2: music concept
Musical Concepts. Music is patterns of melody, rhythm, harmony, tempo/dynamics, and timbre combined to create repetition, variation, and contrast. We use these patterns to create music and we respond emotionally and intellectually to our perceptions and interpretations of these patterns of music.
Inclusivity
Musical inclusion involves giving learners, who may otherwise be overlooked, or face barriers to learning the opportunity to explore, engage, and broaden their musical horizons. As well as musical engagement, it is a commonly held belief that musical participation has the potential to offer young people a range of emotional and social benefits (Pitts, 2005).
how do music concepts and related experiences relate to life skills, mathematics, and language education?
Music involves creating patterns of sound, whereas Mathematics is the study of patterns. Research has found out that popular pieces of music have definite mathematical structures that are less evident in others. These patterns appeal to our innate desire for mathematical rhythm and patterns. Greek philosophers like Aristotle and Pluto believed in the existence of a solid connection between music and mathematics and included music as a genre of mathematics.

I am a foundation phase student teacher in the next 2 years, I will be educating in the foundation phase, I chose to study teaching because I like young kids and they are easy to be controlled and they always learn and listen to someone older than them. young learners are not difficult to deal with that’s why I like them. Study unit 1: holistic development
Holistic development essentially means the development of intellectual, mental, physical, emotional, and social abilities in a child. Holistic education instills curiosity and develops better communication and social skills. The holistic approach encourages children to make a connection in a subject, using their creative skills. Develop psychological, social, and emotional growth and motivate children to learn and know more.
Musical development in the foundation phase is of utmost importance. Children when participating in music and movement activities turn to improve their skills in various factors. Exposing children to music during early development helps them learn the sounds and meanings of words. Dancing to music helps children build motor skills while allowing them to practice self-expression. For children and adults, music helps strengthen memory skills.
