The teachings and the beliefs in my ethnic group that shaped my view

1. Humanity and cultural norms
I grew up in a cultural orientated community and family. Growing up in the Bapedi culture was and still is a huge privilege they believe and practice humanity, either in the community or in the families. They taught us that humanity serves as an important aspect in one's life and in order for your life to be complete you have to practice it. It can be displayed in many different ways which I cannot mention them all, respecting elderly people and treating them the way you treat and respect your parents, respecting people younger than me is humanity, that is how I was taught. It leaves a permanent and important mark that has a huge impact in my life in general and not forgetting my ancestors. I was taught that when giving the elders food and drinks I must kneel down because it shows respect even when I greet then it is mandatory to kneel. I was told that the respect that you practice and give to others shapes my life which also makes my ancestors happy and makes them to shower me with blessings and to protect me.
2. Dream interpretation and the spirit world
In my community and my culture also, dreams are not considered as dreams, but they believe that in most cases they serve as a message. They offer a glimpse into the spirit world of hidden reality that can be seen as messages from my ancestors, warnings from the future and the ancestors or opportunities of spiritual guidance. There are also cultural specialists that they can take you to if you want an interpretation to your dreams so that they interpret the dreams for you. The specialist after doing their work then therefore tell you what the dreams means and what should be done because in some cases, they do specific rituals or practices to induce prophetic dreams or to interpret those dreams.
So, growing up in a community like that created a sense of connection to my cultural beliefs and my ancestors and in conclusion this shapes my worldview in a different way that makes me narrow minded to other people's culture and their beliefs.
Being a first year university student

Normally my roommate wakes me up in the morning because I am a heavy sleeper, I cant wake myself. Even when the alarm rings I don`t hear it, so my roommate is like my second mom and she takes a good care of me like every mother does to her children. Ill then take a warm shower because I don`t like neither cold or hot water. After the warm shower just like every other morning ,ill stare at my closet trying to come up with an outfit to wear for the day and still find nothing to wear even though my closet is full of clothes however ill end up wearing some clothes. Most of the time I skip breakfast because I'm always late for class so ill just make myself a lunch box.
I normally walk 5 to 7 minutes to get to campus. Most of the times I have early classes which sucks because I'm not an early person and yes ,I'm aware of the saying "the earliest bird catches the fattest worm" but id rather eat the leftovers or the crumbs its fine with me. What sucks even worse is that ill attend early classes and wait for next classes which are in the afternoons, ill wait like a parched traveller in a dessert thirsting for news for the next class and time crawling like a wounded snail. By the end of my classes ill be as a drained battery because of the long hours of waiting and attending.
After my classes ill go back to my room and go for a jog because a healthy body is maintained by regular exercise and a healthy body equals a healthy mind. After jogging ill take a warm shower and when I'm done ill go to campus again to study. Come back late around 22h00, which I think is very early but because I'm a girl and I cant walk very late at night by myself hence I have to come back around that time . when I get to my room I don`t even cook, ill just drink some water or eat pretzels then prepare myself to sleep even though my roommate does cook but I don`t really like food and also I feel like I don`t really have time for eating, then ill just sleep for hours and prepared myself to be awakened by a very loud and motherly voice which is my roommate's.
Stereotype

Stereotype is a preconceived and oversimplified idea of the characteristics which typify a person, race or community which may lead to treating them in a particular way. They are based on narrow understanding and often used to make assumptions about individuals and groups of people.
With my experience in high school people and most of the teachers believed that when coming to schoolwork girls were better at languages than boys, and boys were better in math. And this claims that boys are more rational and therefore are more gifted in science and girls are more emotional and creative and therefore better in arts and literature. And it wasn't even close to being like that because there were also girls actually more girls who were doing exceptionally well in math and science than boys, so I just believe it depends on an individual not gender.
And I went to a public school and this one is also a common stereotype in our everyday lives. There is also a misinformation that people who goes to private schools are smarter than people who goes to public school. How so? Because we end up going to the same universities, same colleges and end up doing the same courses. I strongly argue that in view of the fact that they just have access to many things that public schools don't have, and they have advanced technology compared to public school.
In conclusion I say none of these stereotypes make sense and none of them has an impact in our lives since its just based on people's opinions.
