I was born and raised in South Africa surrounded by a Christian family group that go to church and celebrates all Christian holidays as a family. I was raised and surrounded by all my family's morals who believe in helping build people for their future. I went to a government all-girls high school and boarding establishment and was surrounded by many people from different cultures and beliefs and I learned and experienced many different people within this time. I was surrounded by friends who all had different beliefs, cultures, and stories of their lives that were shared freely with no discriminating judgment. We as a school were very welcoming to all cultures and beliefs and celebrated all ethnicities of the South African rainbow nation. So by being in this school, my worldview was changed for the better as I was welcomed to so many new experiences.

When I think about the relationships I have today and the people I surround myself with I realise that I am built up and am who I am because of every single one of these relationships. Whether it’s my family, friends, or a random person I met at the shop they all have an impact on on who I am.

Relationships within my family are full of love and support and they have created the person I am today from the beginning of life. My family are my support system and the first people I would call for anything. We have shared so much together through holidays and traditions they have always been by my side for absolutely anything.

The relationships I hold with my friends contain honesty and being able to be myself around them. When I’m surrounded by my friends I feel like I could do anything and not get embarrassed about it because they would be by my side through it all. My friends are the people I turn to when I need an honest opinion to have a shoulder to cry on or just a laugh. My friends have built me through learning new things from them constantly.

The people in my life who have built me up as a person who I might not know or don’t know personally. I was in a boarding establishment throughout my high school career and was surrounded by many different personalities. I learned things from these people every day as they were the people I spent 24/7 with without having a choice whether I liked them or not. I was spending the next 5 years with them. I learned a lot from them and they honestly built my character and built the part of me being able to stand for what I believed in.

The random person I met in the shop could be absolutely anyone someone that you don’t even know his/her name but created an impact on your life and made you remember something it could be a lady who saw someone drop a one hundred Rand note on the floor and she ran to pick it up and give it back to them. This shows integrity and builds me to believe in the good of other people.

All these interactions have shaped the person I have become today and beliefs I hold within me. I have learned so much from so many different people that have created an impact in my life.

My day starts off with the dreary sound of my alarm going off in the background of my dream. I usually wake up and turn off my alarm to find myself mindlessly turning on a Netflix usually opting for a go-to like Friends or Big Bang Theory while listening to that in the background I usually walk to the kitchen to make my must have cup of coffee for the day. Once I’m fully awake I rush to clean my room and choose something to wear for the day ahead. Once I leave for campus I’m hit by the morning sun on my walk to my lecture, usually listening to a playlist in my earphones while surrounded by the chatting students as I walk through the amphi. Once in my lectures I, try my best to stay focused and create in-class notes to keep me drawn to what is being said, often getting distracted while thinking of all the other things I have to do for my other modules. After my lectures I usually walk home with a friend until we reach my apartment and she walks on to her place. When I’m home, I usually find myself sitting at my desk trying to complete multiple tasks at a time and finishing notes from the lectures I had that day with the afternoon sun pouring through my windows in front of me. I then start making supper which is usually something easy that I know will be delicious and I am surrounded by the smells of the different spices used. I then usually sit and enjoy my meal in front of my laptop watching a movie or series. I usually phone my mom or my dad whoever picks up first and chat to them about the events of the day. Once I’m done I take a long hot shower releasing any tension from sitting at a desk all day while I enjoy the smell of my pomegranate face wash. I end the day by either getting into bed with a good book or the end of an episode that I’d been watching earlier until I fall asleep in my laundry powder scented sheets.
