Welcome to the module People Development in an organisational context. I believe this module will be of great value to you during your studies and future career as Human Resource Development professional (HRDP). It all depends on whether your competencies will be enhanced and/or strengthened through the planned learning interventions in this module.

Hopefully, you will find the work stimulating, valuable and relevant to your organisation, but also quite enjoyable, especially in the present time of radical changes in the training and development system both in South Africa and the rest of the world.

This module aims to provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills to develop people within an organisational context and transform an organisation into a learning organisation. Those as mentioned above can only be realised by understanding the strategic role of Human Resource Development (HRD) and of the HRD professional (HRDP) to transform organisations in learning organisations that focus on people development. This can be realised through management development; talent development; career management and performance and organisational development. The HRDP should be a change agent and manage HRD strategically to discover all of the aforementioned. Applicable intervention strategies and techniques should be carefully selected, planned, implemented and evaluated. When functioning as an HRDP, the most practical approach could ensure success. Furthermore, one cannot be an HRDP without a thorough understanding of the organisational context in that one is operating.
