South Africans applying for financial emigration

19 Oct 2017, 15:29 Publicly Viewable
  • Financial emigration and emigration are not the same.
  • With emigration South Africans are still categorised as South African tax residents living abroad temporarily and are therefore subject to South African tax laws in terms of their worldwide income, whereas with financial emigration South Africans will no longer be categorised as South African tax residents and will therefore not be liable to pay South African tax on their worldwide income.
  • When an individual would like to financially emigrate they will have to fill in and sign numerous documents, this process will be done with the South African Reserve Bank where at the end of the process the individuals tax status will change from resident to non-resident.
  • Most peple will financially emigrate if  they will no longer have any association with South African apart from the usage of their South African passports for holidays.
  • People will also financially emigrate if they wish to tax out foreign allowances.
