There have been a lot of researchers that have conducted research on the topic of graduate unemployment however, from the many researches that have been conducted, a few of them only give the real causes of graduate unemployment. So firstly, it has to be said that, finding the real causes of graduate unemployment is the prime reason for conducting research on graduate unemployment.

Other forms or types of researches that have been conducted before on the topic of graduate unemployment in South Africa have only been able to give a clear picture of graduate unemployment on a national scale and only sometimes on a provincial scale. This research aims particularly to uncover the real life situation of graduate unemployment in North West Tlokwe 405 community. Another reason is to ascertain that there are really plans made by the national government to help unemployed graduates in local municipalities, particularly in the Tlokwe 405 community.

Another reason that lead to the research topic of graduate unemployment is the need to understand what does graduate unemployment mean to us as current students who will later on be searching for employment. Basically the intention is to find out, “what will the current situation of unemployed graduates look like in future”. By knowing all the challenges that lead to graduate unemployment, South Africans will be left in a better off position to deal with the issue of unemployment, for example, current students who hope to find employment after the completion of their studies will also be left in a better of position by understanding the crux of the problem pertaining to graduate unemployment.

Knowing the real crux of the problem can help future unemployed graduates to plan and map-out a solution that will be helpful for them to find employment as quick as possible after they graduate. This research is also being conducted in pursue of coming across new findings because with new findings, we can add on to the existing body of knowledge relating to graduate unemployment and also our findings can help us with making recommendations and be of much help to local governments across the domestic.

By exploring and conducting research on graduate unemployment, we will be exposed to a lot of shortfalls and challenges, for example, we might find out that the mere reason as to why most of the unemployed graduates are not able to find employment is due to not having sufficient or any money at all to sponsor the employment hunting process. In a situation like this, enlightenment would be given to relevant institutions or the national government. A response by the relevant institutions or government in particular could result in a policy being designed maybe to sponsor all the unemployed graduates who do not have enough money with subsidies or incentives that can finance them and help them to better find employment.
