1) Three phenothiazines sub families:

-Aliphatic side chain: eg, Chlorpromazine

Low potency, Little EPS, severe sedation, strong anticholinergic SE, postural hypotention, cardiotoxic

-Piperdine side chain: eg,  Thioridazine

same as Aliphatic.

-Piperazine: eg, Fluphenazine, Perphenazine, Trifluoperazine, Prochlorperazone.

high potency, more EPS, less sedation, less cardiovascular side effects, weaker anticholinergic side effects

2) Typical Anti-psychotics block mesolimbic D2 receptors

3) Atypical Anti-psychotics blocks 5-HT 2a receptors and improves both negative and positive symptoms while typical Anti-psychotics block the mesolimbic D2 receptors and only improves positive symptoms.

4) The blocking of 5-HT receptor reduces EPS

5) The piperazine compounds, Haloperidol and thioxanthenes. This is because they have a higher affinity for D2 receptors and therefore causes the most EPS. They also have a high potency.

6) Alpha 1 blockade causes autonomic side effects
