Dear PSYC121 students

We would like to extend a warm welcome to this module on Social and Community Psychology. This branch of psychology offers you the opportunity to broaden your knowledge of yourself, people, and communities within various social contexts. The module offers a variety of theoretical underpinnings for the social self, social cognition, emotion, social influence, social behaviour and social relationships. In addition, the module also includes aspects of community psychology that are of great importance.  This module will look at what community psychology is about, theories within community psychology, how community psychology is practiced within the South African context, and the application of current themes in community psychology in South Africa.

We trust that you will find this module stimulating and that this module will serve as a source of knowledge for understanding yourself and others a little better.

IMPORTANT: Familiarise yourself with the information under the module orientation and module and assessment information tabs (on your left) for background on how to approach this module.

Kind regards

The PSYC121 module team
