Part 1:

These few weeks have been hectic!! Can't wait for the holidays, really need a vacation. Work has been stressful and busy. Must say I'm excited about Christmas.  I can feel the tension in the workspace everyone is just tired and frustrated. 

Part 2:

Using arts integration can benefit the learners in many aspects. I believe music helps learners to specific feelings and to be themselves. Art integration helps with teamwork and enhances communication skills, language, and problem-solving. This unit shows the importance to embrace diversity. I believe it helps learners with teamwork and problem solving and forms mutual respect for friends. 

The theoretical framework for arts integration was interesting because it was developed for the integration of music in the foundation phase. This knowledge will help me as an FP teacher.The important aspect is that it benefits students will be passionate about learning . Not only  does it simulate and improve reading it also improves the cognitive development skills that  is important to the students  development. 

Part 1:

I can’t believe this year is almost at its end! The school closes on the 3^rd of December and I can’t wait for a holiday just to catch a breath with work and studies. I am a 3rd-year student with 2nd-year modules. I can’t wait to be done with them this year. Tomorrow work starts again, but lucky for us we only have to work till Thursday. The weekend I’m going home to my mother (exited!!!!)

Part 2:

I am a kindergarten teacher and my job mostly required me to teach students through playing to learn different skills. That’s why play is so important for children. In this unit, I have learned that there are ways to incorporate different elements of play during a music activity. There are different types of musical games, The role of musical play was interesting because we use it in our everyday learning at school. Learning about any topic, it’s also important for holistic development and it plays an important role in a multicultural class and that is how you will see the true value of musical play.

I believe that play supports physical development and social, emotional and is important for the cognitive growth of a young learner. The Learners will be able to master different concepts that include physical and intellectual skills that they will develop by engaging with musical activities. Classroom play has important assets where students work together that provides and creates teamwork that forms discipline, imagination where they can relate with peers and create new concepts.

Part 3:

I will create interactive activities that learners can enjoy. I would teach learners the songs that they have knowledge of on different types of musical instruments.

Hello everyone it's me again, let me just say I'm really feeling lost and overstressed with work and study. It's been hectic! But anyway life goes on and you just have to keep your head up. I have a message that has been stuck in my head this past few days and would really like to share it with everyone. " The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. 13 Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the court of our God. Psalms 92:12-13

Study unit 2: Listening to and responding to music.

We discussed various types of music activities which I found very enjoyable and would love to demonstrate to a class as a teacher. In this unit, we learned about music and different elements.

How do music concepts and related experiences relate to life skills, mathematics, and language education?

-The contribution of music education to the holistic development of the young learner is important. we do not need the competence to teach music in the foundation phase. Music enhances the holistic growth of the learners. It is a universal language. It can be integrated into mathematics where children learn using songs to count or songs about shapes. Music teaches language by using rhyme/words, sentences. Music makes learning enjoyable to learn and enhances focus and concentration. Music is a diverse language and children learn different cultural music.

1. As a foundation phase teacher, you have to choose between utilizing indigenous Africa music, Western art music including popular music and film music in your classes. Which would you choose? 

- We live in a diverse country, I believe that contemporary commercial music (film music) because it encompasses all types of music, from pop to rock. I chose this because it is something learners are familiar with, for example, The Lion King theme song. It is something students are comfortable with because it's a popular song and is loved around the world. 

2. Do you think that the examples and content offered in Unit 2 are inclusive?

- I agree because the unit gives a lot of inclusivity. In the unit, there are a variety of songs in different languages and different types of songs. There are various types of music activities as well such as body percussions, beat by movement. I found the activities easy to reteach and interesting. I think the students would love the movement activities. The unit has learned my new skill sets in a tone of formality. 

Has anyone watched The Greatest Showman ? I Really connected with the song 'This is me'.

That's why the message of "This is me" matters as much today as it ever did.

Hello, my name is Leriska Lemmer and THIS IS ME! I am a 3rd year BEd distance student. I work with 18 months to 3 year olds at Laerskool Jan Cilliers. I work and study and at times it really gets hard, i also have a small business where I make polymer clay jewellery and it's called Oopsie daisy. This year has been hard for me. I lost my Father and my grandfather. Its been a rolller coaster of emotion. 

Writing a blog is not something i would normally do..but i guess it's nice to look back at what you wrote at a specific time and place. Reminiscing about all the wonders i have learned.
