1. Explain your understanding of Vygotsky's zone of proximal development :
- The way i understand it is that Vygotsky thinks that all societies are the same (but they are not). He feels that Social Interactions between people are crucial for learning development.
2. Summarize the most important aspects of the learning theories(Piaget, Erikson and Vygotsky) for your teaching practice as a FP teacher:
Piaget - he focuses a lot on the 4 main concepts of Cognitive development, these include
- Sensorimotor Intelligence
- Preoperational Thinking
- Concrete Operational Thinking and
- Formal Operational thinking
Erikson - He focuses on age and the development of different ages. He helps teachers understand the different age groups and development and how we can approach the different age groups with specific things.
Vygotsky - He mentions the 3 main concepts of Cognitive Development :
- For learning to take place, culture is very important.
- Culture is rooted in language development and
- People learn throughout the role they play in their own communities.
3. Reflect on your newly gained knowledge of learning theories and holistic development(create a mind map) :
Holistic Development ----->> Fine motor skills ----->> Social and emotional skills
----->> Spiritual skills
----->> Self helping skills
4. Why is it important to have basic knowledge about the musical development of FP learners?
- I feel like it would help me to be more creative in ways of helping struggling learners. I feel like music is also very calming and could definitely be worked into a lesson for children to sing along to and get them engaged with the lesson.
I enjoyed learning about Vygotsky, Piaget and Erikson. They really give valuable information that i definitely benefit from. I also realize how important music is to a developing child...very interesting.

Hi everyone, my name is Nicole Slier but most people call me Nikki. I live in Kempton Park but would one day, love to move overseas and teach overseas.
I am truly passionate about my sport and I am working hard to become a professional woman's cricket player. I love being around my friends and family ! I am very shy at first, but once i get comfortable, I'll be the extrovert in the room.
I am excited to see what this semester holds and the new things we will get introduced to! I am a little nervous about all our modules but LSKM looks pretty fun and like something new. I expect this module to mostly contribute and hopefully build my skills for a future teacher.
