Sometimes, I don't always, feel the difference in the knowledge that I've gained over the semester, but reading trough my previous blogs, I can see what I've learned. I could build on the things I've founded challenging.. I've learned a lot in this module, I learn new ways we could incorporate music in the classroom.
After all, this was a really good module, and I loved it.

These few weeks was hectic and very busy, I'm making due dates just on time!
Something from this study unit that I've find quite easy to learn about was learning about the characteristics of a well-planned music lesson as we already had some other basic information around lesson planning in other modules.
What was interesting and quite new to learn was what we learn about Transformation through music education.
This study unit was after all a very good and well informed lesson, and I enjoyed it!

Last week was so busy! So many due dates, but I've put in some effort and got a lot of work done. This week I feel a lot better about my schedule and workload. I planning to work really hard, so that I can enjoy the long weekend and recess coming up.
The things that could make the learners uncomfortable could be the song choice and dancing in front of the class. Some of the learners were uncomfortable of dancing in front of the boys and about the music due to religious reasons. In the future I would use culture diversity music or contemporary music approach. We as teachers must be aware of the cultures in our classroom and what would or would not be acceptable for the learners to interact in.
Have an AWESOME week everyone!!

This Semester is hectic so far!! It's like all the due dates is at the same time. Today is Wednesday, but with everything that I needed to get done, it feels like Friday already. But so far I really still enjoy doing LSKM, as I did music as an subject up until grade 9, and really enjoyed it. To become aware of all the new things in music, like how special need children can benefit from music, is totally awesome. As I'm part of this PhD- study, I also really learn a lot from my peer in my group. I really encourage students to take part in this.
LSKM gives deep insight information, and when I finish with a study unit, I feel that I've learned so many new things. LSKM also give many ways how we can incorporate music into our classroom and make good use of examples.
As a Foundation Phase Teacher I would rather incorporate contemporary commercial music. This would be the music most known to all students. They would recognize it from commercials and movies, and I personally think that it would make it more enjoyable for students and students would be more eager to collaborate or participate in the lesson.
Personally I think the content of SU 2 and the example's given are inclusive, it is examples that most leaners with or without special needs can make use of. Teachers in schools with many or little resources can make use of it.

Since my mother passed away on the 22nd July, it hasn't felt that I've had enough chance to work trough all my studies. I'm also working as an Au Pair, and between working, helping with arrangements, it felt like I was rushing trough the work, but this past few days, I took the time and late nights to get on schedule, so that I can start Monday on schedule and on a new page. I feel that I'm in a good space with music, I love that music is part of teaching.
Some of the new things I've come aware of was the different ages some of the music skills start to develop and what the specific development is.
When I thought about the question where if I have to choose between music education or physical education for holistic development, my decision was clear to me to use music education. Both would be of a benefit, but that is if I had to choose. My reasoning for this is that music creates a creative space for a child which is essential for their development. As stated in the SU 1 under cognitive development, music promotes both numeracy and literacy skills. It also stated that it can help with language development, it can happen when the child learn to sing songs in multiple languages. My last reason for my choice is that I grew up doing music in school and made lots friends and music also helped me trough tough times and it was like an escape and I've many similar stories to mine.
I really see forward to the rest of this module, this module also consists of good quality information and I really think that this module will give me new perspective on the subject music.
Jana Swart introduction.

Hello, I'm Jana Swart, 20 years old and from the Western Cape, Cape Town. I currently work as an AuPair, and love it!
I've chosen foundation phase, because usually when the small children comes to you class, they barely know anything other than what they are taught at home, like walking talking or even writing their name, but when they leave foundation phase and move into the intermediate phase, they can write sentences, paragraphs, read stories in multiple languages ect.
I am very excited about LSKM, because I love music! In school I've played the recorder and the piano, and now I'm trying to teach myself the Guitar.
I hope that I'll have deeper knowledge of how I can teach music as a life skill to young children.
Good luck to everyone in this semester, make it count.
