This semester I really learned more about creative arts and music. To be honest I was one of those teachers who thought art and music was a waste of time. Time we can rather spend on language or math. After LSKM, this semester, my viewpoint changed for the better as I saw how important music and arts is for the development of learners. Creative arts and music really boost their creative thinking as well as their confidence. All learners feel special in this classroom, participating in all the activities and learns and grows without the fear of fail. Music is something that we must appreciate as I show the art or creative mind of others. Growing from music has been shown.

Study unit 5

This year is going by the speed of light! Like how it is 2 days till November!!! Mindboggling cool!!!

Learning about different models of assessments and how to plan an effective lesson plan for creative arts. Study unit 5 has taught me how to think about a music lesson's flow and assessment and how we must add it and interpreted it in our classrooms. This was a fantastic unit to end our module with as this unit took everything, we learnt this past 4 study units and binned it all together. This taught us on how to add assessments to our creative arts and how to combine all the units into one lesson plan or assessment.

Assessments may be neglected as some head of departments will think it is not as important as math or language. They may see it as a waste of time as they have more important subjects and things to spend time on. I think this is the wrong approach as Performing Arts and music needs to be assess as learners will grow more out of their mistakes. They may even focus more during the assessments activities as they want to receive good marks for those who focusses on their academic. Learners will focus more and not just play around in class. Their creativity will expand, and personality will grow.

Some learners that are not academically strong will be able to exceed in this assessment and feel like they can accomplish something and is good in something. The reason why it may also be neglected is that some schools are not privileged to have resources for a creative arts program or an extra teacher to teach creative arts. This my cause it to be neglected as teachers don’t want to spend extra time on an extra lesson plan or use academic time for creative arts and music.

If I had the opportunity to advocate or change the system, I would have a discussion with the head of department and state facts of why performing arts and music is essential of foundation phase learners. Knowing and stating all the facts can help my situation to ask to form a department for music and arts to learn the learners about it. I would start with a plan to use performance art and music in full swing not only just in creative arts class but also in the teacher’s classroom. This would be helpful as we must learn our teacher how to teach creative arts and be time worthy for everybody.

Stay strong guys as we only have 3 weeks of this semester left!!

2. Study unit 2

This week has been a roller-coaster of emotions feels like we are going 120 km the whole time. My studies are taking a bit of a backseat this week as the hockey season began this week. Juggling school, sport, appear, studies and a social life is beginning to be a bit more difficult but we keeping the balls in the air. And…. Can the weather please just decide what it wants to be winter/summer

I become aware of how music impacts children and now to add it. I can now fully understand the music concepts and activities on how to apply them. The concept I enjoyed the most was the learning about the rhythm and how to add it to my classroom without making a huge mess or untidy.

I would choose contemporary commercial music. I would choose this option because learners are more likely to like this music and participate in the lesson as they would know these songs and feel more modern than old. I feel this would make the lesson more pleasant and the learners may find it more enjoyable as they can see I want to relate to them and get things on their level. We need to ensure that every learner, regardless of religion, race or status, feels welcome and able to participate. This using music that they heard from a movie watched in class can be a good thing as everyone will know the music.

I think the examples and content in this study unit was inclusive as each concept of music was explained fully and in such a way that a person with no music background could understand what was being said. Adding the barcodes for us to stand made it a lot easier to understand and more enjoyable as just putting words to paper.

Everything in this study unit was well explained and the idea of music concepts and activities are explained in such a way that I could grasp it at first try. I think a point could be made on how to include other grades rather than just focusing on grade 1. Like adding activities to do with grade 2 and 3 learners as they need more advanced activities.

In my opinion did this study unit give a lot of guidance how to incorporate music concepts and activities to my daily class routine and made it in such a way that I want to add music as I see the benefit it has on children.

Have an amazing week, we are half way there…
