Depression : Yes, it is a social problem since the media and or influential people have been and are still calling for people to regularly check on their mental health and as such are making people aware of depression and how to deal with it. This particular problem is caused by many things and amongst those things are poverty and unemployment.

Smash and Grab : It is not a social problem because it has only affected a few people, about a quarter of a country and as such it does not receive much media coverage.

Rape : Rape is a social problem, it has affected a lot of people in South Africa, both male and female. One can say that it is a social problem with the way that the media and influential people are covering this issue. We can see this with the constant awareness campaigns, hash tags on social media and marches, usually outside court during the court case of the accused.

Fast Food : They are not a social problem, the media covers less or no news about this. It affects most people but does not have such a bad impact.

HIV /AIDS : It is a social problem. It affects a very large number of people in the world. The media and influential people are constantly trying to make people aware about the virus and provide as much information about how one can prevent it or live with it. For this particular problem, we have a national day where we we celebrate the people who have died from the virus while encouraging those that are affected by the virus.
