The similarities we find from these two theories is that they both aimed on making sure that underdeveloped countries develop in order for them to sustain themselves without being dependent on western countries.

The differences we find from these two theories is that the modernization theory wanted to bring development by making underdeveloped countries to deviate from their tradition-orientated cultures, which was something the dependency theory never preached. The dependency theory aimed that underdeveloped countries develop while sticking to their tradition and culture.  These theories both received criticism and under the modernization theory it was said that traditional life was regarded as primitive, and under the dependency theory it was said that it pays attention on the external variables instead of the internal factors that actually lead to underdevelopment

WHAT CONSTITUTES DEVELOPMENT IN SOUTH AFRICA:

1. MODERNIZATION

Modernization refers to a process whereby traditional societies move to modern societies. This process helps in many ways because things evolve and people become more aware of their surroundings. In South Africa we see that the process of modernization is mostly done in rural societies where the government tries to install technological gadgets and some retail shops found in modernized cities.

2. POLITICAL TRANSFORMATION

Political transformation refers to the development of the democracy. This factor is important because the rights of citizens evolve, and results to political growth. In South Africa we have political parties formed in order to educate people about politics of the country and the importance of having a say in the country's affairs.

3. RURAL TO URBAN MIGRATION

Rural to urban migration refers to the relocating of people from rural areas to urban areas. This is caused by people looking for better living standardsDue to the improved labour markets in urban areas it also cause the migration. In South Africa the rural urban migration is mainly caused by people seeking for better jobs, better education and sometimes following family members that have stayed in the urban area for a long time. In the South Africa the province that is experiencing the highest rural-urban migration is Gauteng (The city of Gold)

4. IMPROVEMENTS IN EDUCATION AND HEALTH

Education is a fundamental factor in the world and it must always be a developing factor. Health is very crucial because every human being is entitled to good health care facilities. These factors are daily evolving factors because people need education and good health care. What are the benefits of poverty for the individual and the community:
Poverty is a hardship faced by an individual or a community where they are unable to satisfy your daily needs.
The benefits of poverty for an individual is that you become more resourceful and you seek more creative ways to surviving. You can survive on almost nothing, with limited resources because you measure your resources accordingly and it saves because you are alone. You gain inner strength and hope more because even when you do not have much to survive on you still believe that one day things will be in good condition.

The benefits of poverty for a community is that they end up developing a spirit of taking care of each other and uplifting one another. Another point is that the community develops a strategic plan on how to use their community resources.
Poverty also makes you be able to value the little you have.

CONFLICT ORIENTATION FEMINIST ORIENTATION:

Conflict orientation is whereby a society is characterized by general inequality based on social class, race, gender, and other factors.

Feminist orientation incorporates female values and ways that focus on subjective, empathetic, inclusive, relational, and feeling of females.

The similarities that we get between the conflict and feminist orientation is that they both focus on the issues of gender and social class. These two theoretical approaches preach equality for all irrespective of gender, race, and social class.

The feminist and the conflict orientation also underline that everyone is equal and that no one must be excluded.

The similarity we also get from these two theories is that not only do they get an understanding of inequality, but they seek solutions to curb the problem.

The difference between the conflict and the feminist orientation is that the conflict orientation focuses more on ensuring equality for all, whereas the feminist orientation focuses on gaining rights for women in-order to end patriarchy. Another difference we find is that the feminist orientation is a theory that mainly looks at gender problems and the limitations that women face in a society, meanwhile that conflict orientation speaks for the social classes that are disadvantaged be it a man or woman.
