Poverty is a state or condition in which a person or community lacks the financial resources and essentials for a minimum standard of living. Poverty means that income from employment is so low that basic human needs cannot be met. Poor individuals and families may forego adequate housing, clean water, healthy food, and medical care. Each nation can have its own threshold that determines how many of its residents live in poverty.

Benefits of poverty to the individual:

• When you are poor you have to do everything by yourself. Things such as being a caregiver, accountant, breadwinner, and housekeeper. You acquire a lot of skill because you are dependent on yourself

• Poor people are hard working and mostly do manual work

• When you poor, you don’t have any sort of access to many resources therefore you have to always find solutions or have a backup plan. They are always creative.

• Poor people know how to make a living with the little that they have. They are able to work multiple jobs just to gain an income to provide for their loved ones.

• They do not spend money on things they do not need

• You are more likely to understand people’s struggles than a rich person does.

• They do not have much to lose

• They cherish every little thing they accomplish

 

Benefits of poverty to the community:

• Poverty helps with recycling of goods

• Help with upholding conventional norms

• They are morally deviant

• Upward mobility of other groups by helping others achieve
