I choose to compare and contrast the two Theoritical approaches namely the structural functionalist orientation and the conflict orientation.
The structural functionalist orientation is based on society and social stability, it actually beleive's that something good can come from something bad, it also beleive's that making efforts to reduce crime should not be far reaching changes because they beleive it is unnecessary.
The conflict orientation is associated with making social changes, they beleive in eliminating social inequalities, they aim to approach social problems through making far reaching changes.
THE COMPARISON
The structural functionalist orientation states that the armed robbery actually serves a positive function in the society because it creates jibs for criminals that can not be able to apply for better jobs, also the conflict orientation thinks that since well most criminals have nothing and are poor they partake in armed robberies to be able to move out of poverty and facing lack of jobs ,so they are creating jobs for themselves.
THE CONTRAST
The structural functionalist orientation beleive that solutions to social problem should be gradual not sudden and far reaching change, however the conflict orientation ensures that it reduces street crime, as it advocates for far reaching changes.
The other contrast that is evident is that in the conflict orientation , social problems arise from fundamental faults in the structure of society and both reflect and reinforce inequalities but with the structural functionalist orientation social problems are said to be weakening the society's stability but do not reflect fundamental faults in how the society is structured.
