Men have always been in the pioneers of development, this is true because during the 1970s women were either not involved or they fell between the cracks of development, this then lead to the detrimental act of them losing the opportunity of gaining from development and change their position within society, some how development perpetuated and fostered unpleasant circumstances for women. WID approach is one that held a perspective that the fact that women were not included or give the opportunity to be involved with development programmes or project is what is the problem, the WID approach posit that the inclusion of women and integreting women with such projects or programmes would solve this particular problem. WID perceived women as a group in society that either lacked the chance to be involved in development or were not given a chance to be exposed to development, this resulted in the focus of augmenting the chances of women to be able to take their role in participating development. The fact that WID ignorantly focused on the inequalities between men and women, social, cultural legal and economic elements that foster these inequalities. WID posit that women were generally outcasts when it came to mainstream development. WAD posit that women have has been involved with development processes, they play a vital role as economic actors due to the fact that they work they are involved with whether in or outside the household is of as it still contribute to maintainance of society. WAD's main focus is on the interaction between women and development procedures but not so much on strategies to integrate into development. WAD viewed both genders as not beneficials of the global economic structure due to the disadvantage of class and the manner in which wealth is distributed. It also views global inequalities as the main problem faced by poor countries.

The GAD represents the coming together of many feminist ideas, it is a combination of lessons learnt from and the flaws and advances of the WAD and WID approaches. The GAD ensures that both genders have fair chances at participating in and benefit fairly from development. The two approaches that will be suitable for a S. A context is the GAD and WAD.
