Compare and contrast two theoretical
approaches to social problems.

social problems Any condition or behaviour that has
negative consequences for large numbers of people
and that is generally recognized as a condition or
behaviour that needs to be addressed examples include epidemics and pandemiocs asthese issues affect us as
a whole in a society, it includes crime, global warming etc

2 theoretical approaches to social problems

between the fuctionilist theory and the conflict theory the difference is that in the functionalistb
theory  with the Society is a system of interrelated parts in dynamic equilibrium – if one part changes too fast,
disrupts the entire system and this is how the functionilist theory is orientated and then with
the conflict theory it is orientated in a amanner whyereby Society is characterised by pervasive
inequality based on social class, race, gender, and other factors. and therefor there approaches
towards social problems will be different
in a sense that when it comes to the functionalist theory will find logical reasons why social problems are important and necessary for an example it is important that we
have a pandemic in order for scientific research centres to be able to do research and find a cure it advances education with in the medical field,
or that an epidemic is important because it serves as a population control factor whereby according to the conflict theory tried to find a deeper understanding of the social problem and the causes thereof
for example conflict theory will focus on the root of the epidemic for example what caused the pandemic the fact that we did not observe social distancing
as a society and that we were able to travel without masks and therefor that is how the pandemic was able to spread and what we can do to manage or fix the issue. these two are different in a sesne that the functionalist justifies the importance  while the conflict theory finds the need to knoe more and fix the issue

Depression, a medical illness that negatively affects how one feels and thinks and acts towards situations, depression causes sadness and loss of interest in activities that one used to enjoy

Smash-and-grab, a crime where a thief smashes into a window and grabs something valuable and runs away with it. many victims of this crime are vehicle drivers who are attacked at robots or during traffic jams.
Rape, a sexual violation where the act was non-consensual by the victim.
Fast food made for commercial resale it is quick and unhealthy but very addictive for many consumers
HIV/AIDS  also known as human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome it is a virus that interferes with the body's ability to fight infections SA has been affected by this epidemic which is now a manageable disease. New infections are still on the rise as SA has the biggest HIV epidemic in the world
all five of these are examples of social problems and this is because question 1 asks what is a social problem
A condition that prevents the achievement of a goal that many people see as important in SA as a society depression is a social problem because most of the time it escalates where many young people who are affected end up committing suicide. Smash and grab increases the crime rate of our country. rape is a problem because it leaves many victim traumatised depressed also it increases the number of HIV infections and unwanted pregnancies. fast food increase the number of people fighting different diseases and disorder namely obesity, cholesterol and strokes etc.
HIV aids is a problem because it increases the death rate. Many people affected with sickness that are not on treatment are very weak and are unable to work this increases unemployment and poverty rates.
what makes a social problem a problem? all five of these issues are social problems and this is because they affect the society at large negatively as they impose health issues, psychological problems and if not managed or handled can lead to death
what causes a social problem causes of these problems are complex and interdependent
how can we solve social problems?
we cannot solve these problems, we can work on making them less wrong by educating people on the issues, finding and assisting with treatment and testing these are all methods we use to manage the social problems at hand.
