Title: Review: Unit 5 part2 and Preview: Unit 6

1. Review: Unit 5 part2

Topic: Producing information - writing for academic purposes

What I have learned about the topic.

  • Structure of an argumentative essays focusing on counterarguments and rebuttal
  • Argumentation looking at flaws in argumentation and deductive as well as inductive reasoning.
  • Counterargument: A counterargument is a viewpoint that opposes your main argument.
  • How to generate counterarguments
  • Rebuttal and Refutation: This means to prove that a statement is wrong or false
  • I have learnt how to refute counterarguments
  • Deductive argument: Based on certainty and logic
  • Inductive argument: No certainty, likely or probable observation and prediction.
  • I have also learnt about logical connectors and how to use them in essays

What I did or did not enjoy about this lecture.

We watched a video which helped me understand counterargument , rebuttal and refutation. Watching something or learning using visuals makes the learning experience much better and more fun so the lectures are not boring. After writing a class activity we got  a chance to read out or views and debate about the topic which was interesting and made class very fun.

  • it is important to recap on the assignment and its structure before writing the conclusion
  • The Dos and Don'ts of writing the conclusion

  • Ways in which one can incorporate feedback

What I did not understand or want to know more of about the topic.

I would like to know how to summarise the work in order for me to be able to write the conclusion. I have struggled with writing a conclusion because I find it difficult to summarise the whole assignment , it hard to know which elements to include and which ones not to include
