My reflection on LSKM module as a whole

8 Dec 2021, 10:24 Publicly Viewable

LSKM promotes creative yet fun learning amougst kids, it also promotes differnt skills amoungst learners within te foundation phase learners thats is vital for thier development.

When planning foundation phase lessons it should always promote active engagement amoungst students, appropriate materials should be used at all times. when planning play lessons withing the foundation phase it is important that the teacher ensures that games are age appropriate and it stimulates learners, the games should be fun and learners should enjoy part-taking in the game.

When it comrs to music lesson planning in foundation phase it it important to keep in mind the age of the learners, to keep in mind that children do not accept music the same way adults do , so choosing music for the specific age is vital and it should be appropriate, when doing music lessons or music activities the music should always be at the beggining and te end of the lesson, and the teacher should not just select or choose to play youtube recordings without any specific objective that has to be obtained, when doing the music activity the teacher should be there to guide the learners when they are doing the music activity or listening to the music activity.

Integrating arts and play within foundation phase learning is vital as well as art intergration allows learners to express thier natural desires for active learning and through thier senses, art intergration promotes certain skills amoungst individuals such as problem- solving skills and allowing learners to have different views when it comes to learning difficulty concepts in order for them to understand . Just as intergarting arts is important so is play a vital aspect within the foundation phase, through play participation, communication and active involvement is promoted, childrens self - confidence is also being developed in the process. both play and art intergartion is vital within foundation phase teaching and learning as it contributes to a childs well-being and a childs physical, emotional and mental development.

Lesson planning is a daily guide teaches use as to what students has to learn, it entails how it will be taught and how learning will be measured, lesson planning helps a teacher to be more effective within the classroom.

There are few things to bear in mind when planning a music lesson such as:

- Music should always take part at the begining of the lesson.

-Do not play youtube recordings without a specific aim.

- Guide learners in music listening.

Characteristics of a well planned lesson

- A typical lesson plan has 3 phases they are:

- Intriduction, teaching and learning phase and a conclusion.

Whereas a well-planned lesson will naturally progress from lower to higher order levels. with a aim towards encourging learners to be engaged in free movement, free play and imitation activieties in the introduction phase, during the presentation phase learners discover, reflect, manipulate materials to internalise new knowlegde and skills through play, and during the conclusion phase learers demonstrate thier understanding through arts by creating presentations.

Arts intergration is a teaching and learning approach.

Arts intergration encourages learners to demonstrate their understanding of concepts and skills through arts, it encourages engagement, experiential learning, authentic learning, colleborative learning, problems skills and reflections.

Art intergration is the heart of art. art intergration is engagement within the creative process, it may require students to repeat, copy and follow instructions. Through art intergration students meet dual learning objectives when they are engaged in the creative process to explore connections between art forms and other subject area to gain a better understanding on both.

Play can distinguished by the quality of pretence measured against what is taken to the real world.

Playing is a form in which kids or even adults communicate, coimmpete, test, intrust and above all it is a form of enjoyment for both kids and adults,

Hallmarks of play- Playing amoungst kids displays emotive, social, and physical content through play kids release various feelings expressing and respondingto other ideas, feelings and peers around them. children do not accept music in the same way adults do, from birth to 6 years and is a important phase for childrens musical development, integrating music in playing may have benefits for kids. Therefore sufficient play and intergrating music/ play stimulates and exposes to musical play  is vital to help children turn their potential into actual music growth, by intergrating play creates different development skills aquaired such as position in space, music play aids the development of a childs physical self.

Hello to everyone! Well I am Mellisa Coetzee, Im from Joburg. Reading through study unit 1 Holistic development, highlighted the importance of a learners developement and the different aspects that plays a part in a learners journey, what stood out for me was how the theorist highlights the importance of having a meaningful interactions with learners and also how feedback and praises plays a vital role in building a childs self- confidence.

Why this stood out for me? Well i am currently an assistant teacher at a primary school working with grade 3 learners, and for the 3 weeks I have been there I have practically seen how postive feedback and praises pushes a learner to wanting to do more and how confident they become when you praise them publicly.

Based on the theorist Vygotsky, Erkisons and Paigets theory - my undeerstanding is that meaning relations are vital as a teacher and from my expierence learners are not just looking forward to a teacher- cemtered approach learners grasp more when they are actively involved to some extent I actually believe they gain more knowledge through a teacher - centered approach.
