• Through the completion of this module I've learnt that holistic education instill curiosity in children and better their communication and social skills. Learners develop psychological,  social and emotional growth through holistic education.  It motivates children to learn and also holistic development makes learning and teaching fun and meaningful. 
• Listening to and responding to  music. 

      I've learnt that music cab be created by just combining different elements like pitch, quality,  etc. Also that each and every element has its own unique sound.

• Play in music education: the aim of education outcomes of play is to teach children certain behaviors, morals and values that are suitable and healthy for the society.  Play support cognitive growth  and children are able to interact with their peers.
• Art integration: art integration provides teachers with opportunities to support and promote the developmental needs of learners while teaching and learning  process is fun  and meaningful 

Important aspects to keep in mind when planning foundation phase lesson.

1. Introductory phase

   Start the lesson with fun, attention-grabbing activity. For example: if the topic of the day is about              "Pets" choose a song or a poem that focuses on pets and play if for your learners. 

2. TEACHING AND LEARNING PHASE

   Instil new knowledge in learners. Use scaffolding method to build new knowledge upon what learners already know. Ensure that learners get to be asked lower and higher order thinking questions. Ask learner questions that encourages them to answer the questions themselves. 

3. CONCLUSION 

Give learners homeworks to teat their understanding about what they have been taught. Get learners do presentations after lessons.

ART INTEGRATION 

Art integration helps learners to develop creative problem-solving skills and it can also present difficult concepts visually and makes them easy to understand. It can also help learners to recognize new skills.

Yes because I have come to understand the importance of inclusion of music and art in teaching content. At foundation phase level learners has to be able to play and be creative in classroom. Music and arts foster social and creative learning skills. It can also motivate learners and helps them to understand content alot more better than just having to instil content without having fun in the classroom 

Play in the foundation phase is very important because it engages learners in content and it also disciplines them.

• what possibly made some learners uncomfortable during these activities?

1.      These activities were not free play. It forced all learners to play a Zulu game whereas the classroom had diverse socio- cultural different learners. Learners did not have any choice to choose even if they did not understand the language, the game as well as they did not believe in the kind of  music that the teacher played in the classroom.

• Why were some learners uncomfortable?

 2. They were uncomfortable because of the language that was used that they did not understand       and also the kind of music that was used because of religious reasons.

• Can you think of ways to address these issues in future? What will you change?

 3. As the teacher, i have to at least  try to accommodate all my learners in classroom in order to         have productive lesson without anyone feeling uncomfortable. Therefor, I would choose a               English language game because English is the language teaching and learning. Then for learners     who feel uncomfortable dancing  in front of boys, i will educate them because we should have a     inclusive classroom atmosphere. They need to know they are equal.

• How can we accommodate diverse learner profiles in our classrooms? What must we beware of?

4. Teachers must plan activities that accommodate and engage every diverse learner- from the            quietest one that is shy to speak or dance in front of others to the matter of the  language of            teaching  and learning. The teacher can also implement differentiated instructions and                      scaffolding; whereby they can engage different types of learners in one activity and providing          support of learning needs of individuals and encourage them towards more independent.                Teachers should be aware of not stepping on anyone's toes and hurting learners emotionally,          physical and mentally.

Art integration : is an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form (Silverstein &  Layne, 2010). It promotes teaching and learning strategies which address outcomes in various subjects simultaneously. It also encourage learners to demonstrate their understanding of contents and skills through arts. It helps learners with engagement, experiential learning , authentic learning strategies, collaborative learning, problem solving skills and reflections.When  we  choose  to  apply  arts  integration  principles  in  the  foundation  phase,  we  need  to engage  learners  in  teaching  and  learning  activities  which  encourage  them  to  draw  on  their  prior knowledge  with  the  aim  of  discovering  new  concepts  and  skills  and  to  demonstrate  their understanding  in  a  practical  way  through  the  arts ( Silverstein &Layne, 2010).The use of the arts in the classroom has been shown to increase student motivation and improve academic progress and socialization. Teachers can integrate music with any subject. The teacher can create their own rhymic patterns by using hands or anything that can be usable. For integrating music with English,  the teacher can play or sing a song to learners then ask them to write stories about it. That can enhance their vocabulary and listening capacity.
