art integration is a teaching approach that help learners construct and show understanding through art form.it helps achieve positive teaching and learning outcomes in different subjects. arts integration has been proven to contribute in higher levels of motivation and support academic achievement of the learners. it give teachers the opportunity to promote and support the developmental needs of the learners.

learners in foundation phase learn through music. play can be used in different subjects like life skills, mathematic and even language. the are different types of play. the is traditional play, open play and original play.
-play involves a state of mind and disposition
-play contain elements of surprise and challenge
-play involves a process, attitude and structure

in study unit 2 we learn about the different music concepts and different types music activities.
music elements are building blocks in music. music can be created through combining various elements. the elements of music are: pitch, texture, intensity and duration
duration
beat and accent
beat is the centre and heartbeat of music. beat are usually grouped into groups of 2,3 or 4 . the accent determines the number of beats in a bar.
each instrument has a unique sound and that is the characteristic of that instrument
holistic development

in study unit 1 we learn about different developmental theories, music and how music education can help support holistic development.
we learn about Erikson's theory of psychosocial development. the theory focuses on the influence of social interaction and relationships on learning. the theory has four stages but the main focus is the fourth stage of industry vs inferiority that learners in foundation phase are at. at this stage learners develop pride in their achievements and abilities through social interaction and relationships. the confidence of the learners is being determined by the people around them. they learn skills that help them gain more confidence and being able to solve problems around them.
Vygotsky and the zone of proximal development
the theory focus on socio- cultural factors influencing cognitive development. according to Vygotsky one to fully understand the learning needs of a child and their developmental stage one must put in consideration the influence of social environment in a personal level. the theorist believe that social environment has an effect on cognition through tools and these tools are taught by adults .
the are different types of music holistic development and they are the following physical, cognitive, social, personal and emotional development that learners in foundation phase develop.
