Hi everyone, welcome back to my blogs...I am Thato and today we wil talk about study unit 3.
This study unit is focused on the nature of play and how play can connect to music. Play in the foundation phasecan be classified as free play, guided play and directed play. Play can have educational outcomes which are team/groupwork, creativity and discipline.
There are 7 elements to play and let me unfold them to you:
1. Play involves a state of mind and disposition- this means learners need to imagine, wonder, be playful experiment and explore the sorroundings before they can actually play.
2. Play contains elements of suprise and challenge- suprising people or being suprised is a contribution to sense of playfulness.
3. Play involves process, attitude and structure children need to understand that there are rules and laws to play.
4. Play is voluntary and unifying, forming part of the socialising process- play is an act of free will.
5. Play involves aestetics quality judgement by participants - throughplay children taught how to behave appropriately.
- Play creates informal space for socio-historical comment
Play blurs the lines between young/old; rich/poor; strong/weak.
- Play reinforces societal roles
In play, social roles and responsibilities are emphasised.
In this chapter I have learned a lot about the importance of play in my class and I am ready to implement everything and enjoy with my learners.

Hey everyone, hope you are doing well.
I learned a lot from this study unit, from inclisuvity, diversity and equality in music. As said this module is not about inclusivity or diversity but music, but being diverse in a music class can help learners all understand the music that is being taught.
The beat and the sound of the music are also important in getting in learners emotions and also making them enjoy the music. Body percusion is also one of the enjoyable music activities that children enjoy. Singing, clapping, stepping and all this body percusion movements make learners enjoy the music class.
This study unit has really helped me understand the importance of music in the classroom and also made me think through and now music in my class as a foundation phase teacher will be a priority as it makes the classroom environment enjoyable, joyful and also learners will learn easily with relaxed minds through music.

For this study unit I have learned that music can help learners in so may ways and it is very important as a foundation phase teacher to teach music to learners as it helps them holistically. Kids learn through play and playing and singing at the same time can help learners learn words or even sounds easily. Music helps learners with theor thonkongs skills and also helps them enjoy education.
