Listening to and responding to music

8 Sep 2021, 17:27 Publicly Viewable

Hi, I'm Snothile Kubheka from Newcastle in KwaZulu  Natal, currently working at a creche. I want to a be foundation phase teacher because I love with young children and spending time with them. Am passionate about making a difference in a child's life,  offering knowledge and and opportunities to learn new things.

This week is overwhelming, I feel like I'm drowning due to the amount of work that needs to be done.

The new thing that I became aware of on this study unit was that  through music, we can address the unique needs of the learners by encouraging them to engage with all their senses. Inclusivity is also largely about ensuring that every learner feels equal in the classroom. The music have education approaches which aids in teaching song and music concepts, young children love to move, sing, dance. Moving is fun, but also gives them the opportunity to listen, respond, imitate, use their bodies in ways that is creative.

The significant element for me is that ' your voice is the primary musical instrument that is available to everyone. The fact that singing together deepens childrens sense  of community and introduce melodies, language and rhythm from different cultures.

I would use these concepts in the classroom because what I have learned is that through the music the children can be able to learn and express themselves freely.
