Study Unit 5: Lesson planning

30 Oct 2021, 10:40 Publicly Viewable

Good Morning everyone! smiley

This study unit 5 taught me the important skills of planning a well developed lesson plan and to always keep in mind to plan ahead and reflect back to the lesson to see if you didn't lift things hanging. it's important to include games, music and art integration when planning a lesson for life-skill and language activity's. In foundation phase teaching assessment and applying different teaching methods it's important when planning music and performing arts lesson, it gives more understanding when demonstrating based on the structure of the day.

  Things that you need to keep in mind when planning music lesson.

 -When introducing a lesson at the beginning and ending a lesson always involve ♬ musical instruments, rhymes and music to draw the interest and attention of learners during the lesson.

-Always involve learners in lesson by giving each one of them the opportunity to make sense of new concepts and new skills on their own and allow team work so that they can help and learn from each other.

-Always challenge your learners, ask questions that prompted them to find solutions and able to answer your questions.

-Guide learners in music listening- guide them to focus on the specific music elements in order to develop musical interests.

- Never play music from your phone, recording and YouTube. Any music learners listen must contribute towards the reaching the lesson aims.

- keeps in mind the role of assessment in the lesson.

-Peer Scaffolding must be part of you planning.

- The lesson must content links to real-life as well as current social and political issues by informs pertinent questions.

Conclusion:

There are many more skills i have learn about planning a well developed lessons I'm going to use in my classroom.  To have learners present a performance at the end of the lesson demonstrating their understanding of a new concept and able to master the new skills.

STUDY UNIT 4: ARTS INTEGRATION IN THE FOUNDATION PHASE

26 Oct 2021, 22:17 Publicly Viewable

                                        Arts integration in the foundation phase:

Arts integration it's an approach to teaching in which learners can able to make or design they're  own creativity and demonstrate understanding through an art form.  And if can engage in a creative process which connects an art form and another subject  the objectives will be the same.  This form of teaching style can address learning outcomes in different subject and develop understanding of concepts, skills through arts ( Silverstein & layne, 2010).

Arts integration helps learners to engage in active teaching and learning activities, experiential learning, collaborative learning, problem-solving skills and reflection.

The value of arts integration :

- Arts integration promote and motivate higher levels through young learners and supports academic achievement.                                                                                                               - This strategies improve levels in mathematics also decrease's disciplinary challenges amongst the learners.

The benefits to Arts Integration:                                                                                                (1) Learners take part part during the lesson-  they become active and participants in their learning.  (2) Critical Thinking skills - By engaging in critical thinking and construct personal in their learning when the arts are intentionally integrated.  (3)  Empowerment- Creative learning is encouraged learning and developing growth. (4) Connective learning - teaching 21st century learning  skills and natural avenues for differentiation. (5) Equity- learning environment for all learners through the own access points.

Ways we can Integrate Arts:

* Experimenting with sound

 * Dramatic  and Play

  *Reflective journaling

 * Through storytelling

* Story through dance performance

 *Analyze artwork.

Good evening everyonesmiley I'm grateful that God he still keeping me alive. October it's been a hectic and busy month but through time management I'm able to over come everything. for me its very important to find balance between my work, studies, family time and fun time. I work on my Assignments immediately the first day I got it so that I can able to help mycheeky kid with his homework and school projectsenlightened and I can also have time to study and be ready for test and quizzes'.

Study Unit 3

Musical play in the foundation phase.

Part 1:

Characteristics of play:

studying this article that talks about  the characteristics of play, were I find it very fascination when they say play it's suppose to be fun, pleasurable to young learners.  The feeling must be satisfaction because of the achievement they get at the end of the day, the goals and running freely, exploring and learning new skills. The most important characteristics that they have listed are -play is active- were all play experience require some active involvement on the part of player. players supply meaning to play, play has no extrinsic goals,  and play is often nonliteral.

Part 2:

The important things a children can learn through play:

- Discipline- they learn the rules of the game or play

- Working as a team - A sense of belonging and cohesion are enforced

-Transformation- Musical play gives opportunities to undergo an imagination and fantasy . They can be anyone they what to be.
- Develops sense and sensibilities - They develop skills like following the beat, rhythmic patterns, intricate dance moves, kinesthetic sensibility dramatics skills and physical coordination.

Part 3

Play involves Music, songs, singing, storytelling, playing musical instruments, structured movement dance and involves theoretical  elements such as characterization tension and surprises.

During play learners are imitating the behavioral of others surrounding them. Play is a way of being and requires a certain state of mind of willingness and open-mindedness. In Education the aims of play is to teach and develop a certain behaviors like values, morals, having a healthy lifestyles and good social skills in a society.

Through play, a foundation phase learners develop cognitively by learning how to solve-problems on their own. By engaging in play activities. In cognitive abilities learners are able to classify, draw, sequences, discriminating  and observing throughout play (Brewer, 2007,p.148).

LISTENING TO AND RESPONDING TO MUSIC.

Good Morning everyone. I hope all it's well, This week it's being a very busy week with little time to relax and were we need to keep up with the due dates of all tests, forums and assignments in mind. but still we are looking forward and we are still standing strong  ☺

Part 1

I have learn about identifying, respond to concepts through music listening, movement , knowledge and development skills and knowledge in different music activities 9n the foundation phase. Through music, we can address learning strategies, cater all diversity needs and include learners with special needs and learning barriers. learners are encouraged to engage with each other. Engaging in music , they must hear sound, feel the instrument vibration, able to move to the beat or music, and see the instrument and look at all musical images.

As a teacher it is also important to learn about the background of your learners, knowing them will help you to know what they love and enjoy doing. Find out about their cultures, music, and dance this will boost they confident and it will show that you value your learners input. Learning what music learners listen at home , with their friends! what song do the enjoy singing? and we need to utilized these in our teaching- learning and assessment strategies and able to accommodate all learners needs and interest.

Part 2

In music and movement children dance, sing and move freely and they love to have fun, engage in social skills. Through music they develop listening skills and gives opportunity to imitate, respond and use body percussion in exploring the world. Physical development and coordination of learners are developed through movement.

Reflection:

I believe that music is magical it can bring joy, smile in a sad face. As a foundation phase teacher I love to take part in music even outside in my spare time and I am patient, willing to learn more about music. As I read about this study unit 1 I realized that music is important for the developmental skill of a child.

Study unit 1

Part 1- Vygotsky's developmental theory is basic on the socio-cultural factors that influence cognitive development of a child. This developmental emphasis social interaction and language development. Vygotsky's said that children learning needs and developmental stage  without social environment as well as the influence of social factors on a personal level into consideration. Therefore, Vygotsky's social-cultural view of cognitive development emphasis the interaction between individual and their environment. (Schunk, 2016, Woolfolk, 2016).  Vygotsky believe that culture development and thinking transmitted through symbols tools like language, counting and writing. therefore this theory emphases that role of adults and peers in a child's learning is important. Its also important to motivate collaborative learning and peer scaffolding in the classroom and the teacher must take control as a facilitator of knowledge ( Woolfolk, 2016).

Part 2 -

(i)  Erikson developmental theory focus to the influence of social interaction and on learning.  this theory believe that foundation phase learners are at the fourth stage of industry vs, inferiority  (ages 5-11). As foundation phase educators , we therefore, have an important role to play in our our learners lives to provide the sufficient extrinsic motivation and encouragement with fostering feelings of competence, self-esteem and confidence.

(ii) Paige's theory development emphasis that notion that children learn by interacting with the world and they build new knowledge on existing skills. According to Piaget's foundation phase children fall between both pre-operational stage ( age 2-6) and concrete operational stage (age 7-11).

(iii) Vygotsky ability develop their thinking abilities during challenging situations through carefully planned and guided support from the teachers and peers.

Part 3

Holistic development - Cognitive, Emotional and Social development.

-Language and Communication skills.

-Learners interacting with others by developing self confident and self- believe.

Part 4

To have knowledge about the music it gives opportunities  to develop personal values and it contributes to learners gaining confident and believing in themselves. the abilities to creative and make music with others.

Part 5 : Music activities that support developmental  in foundation phase classes.

- Incorporate technology- traditional music teaching methods is that they underutilize technology.

- Focus on Engagement and Embrace the Artist - teacher within.

- And Create an Inclusive Classroom environment. ( www.music.usc.edu>four-effective-music.
