At the beginning of the semester, I was not at all aware of the positive aspects that were attached to music and art teaching. I picked up more knowledge as I worked through each study unit. Now that I have worked through all the study units, I know that teaching music and art is one of the most important subjects. It is the foundation or the roots that will lead to the success in other learning areas as well.

I really enjoyed the individual reflections. It also motivated me to work through each study unit and then give my feedback and opinion. It was also interesting for me to read the other students' individual reflections and see what they came from.

I really enjoyed this learning area and did not really struggle with anything. What I did struggle with was submitting the blogs. There was a bug on efundi and it made the whole process difficult and uncertain for me/

I found the individual reflections very useful. It was like a reflection of each study unit for me. It's fun for me to go back and read my reflections and to see how I have grown over time.

I would like the blogs to be more accessible in the future, but here it was only technology to blame.

What I found interesting was how music and art integrate with other subjects. I also found it interesting to see that there are so many ways to give learners an outlet for their emotions, but also to learn to work with other learners and overcome their fears.

What is challenging is to motivate other teachers to incorporate music into subjects. Some of the understand the positive outcomes music integration can have, but some not. I found all elements and learning units valuable to my future learning practice.

The reasons for neglecting assessment of arts and music in the foundation phase can be the limited time that is available. There are so many subjects that are regarded more important and more “useful” than music or arts, that this subject is regarded as unimportant. It is so important to assess a learner’s music and art advancement. It is important to assess learners’ achievements in this field because I think that it is the roots to all other subjects. It learns learners to set goals, to learn discipline, to interact with other learners or to work in a group, and to express themselves in a positive manner and have a good self-esteem. All these aspects are crucial to all other subjects

I don’t agree with this statement at all. I think that arts integration in the foundation phase is crucial. This allows learners to express their feelings and emotions. It also helps learners to get rid of negative feelings or emotions. I found the integration of arts in the foundation phase very interesting, because I’ve learned that it supports the academic achievements of the learners. I found the theoretical framework for arts integration in the FP difficult because all the terms are so closely connected and related.

I think that the boy was uncomfortable during the singing of the song in another language. The teacher did not explain what the song means and what certain words mean. The girl was uncomfortable to dance in front of the class in the middle of the circle. First of all, I will make sure that all the learners understand the song and the words. In the future I really want to make use of a wide variety of music with defendant cultures and backgrounds. This will ensure that all the learners are included in the teaching process. We must be aware that everyone has their differences and that each have the right to choose what they find as enjoyable. Respect for others is the most crucial aspect of this.

I chose indigenous African Music, because I think that it is very important to teach learners about the roots of all our cultures. Many learners do not have that exposure of indigenous African music, and do not know about the different cultural beliefs. I think that the content in learning unit is inclusive. It combines music with bodily movement, singing and body percussion. Learners will feel free to engage in these activities because it is so fun. I think that more subjects in school can include music. Suggestions is to make every learner part of the learning process. We can be very selective about music and dancing choices so that no learner is excluded with this whole process.

Ek glo dat musiek konsepte 'n noue verband het met ander leerareas.

Wiskunde- In musiek en wiskunde word daar met patrone gewerk. Musiek het verse of reels wat herhaal word en so word patrone gevorm. Waar in wiskunde word patrone gebruik om die patrone te beskryf of verduidelik.

Lewensvaardigheid- Musiek word gebruik om positiwiteit te versprei. Dit is 'n belangrike aspek van lewensvaardigheid. In musiek kan daar ook bewegings of danse uitgevoer word wat verband hou met fisieke fiksheid in lewensvaardigheid

Tale- In musiek word daar in verskeie tale gesing. Ek glo dat dit die vinnigste manier is om 'n  nuwe taal aan te leer.

Ek glo dat musiek onderrig in skole baie belangrik is.

Ek glo dat dit baie belangrik is om leerders bloot te stel aan musiek en verskeie tipe intrumente op 'n jong ouderdom. Baie kinders word nie groot in 'n musikale familie nie, maar het dalk versteekte talente waarvan niemand weet nie. Deur 'n kind bloot te stel aan verskeie intrumente en tegnieke van musiek, kan 'n kind daardie tegnieke of talente gebruik en ontwikkel.

Vir sommige leerders kan dit ook 'n uitlaatklep wees om hulle emosies vry te laat. Leerders se akademiese prestasie sal ook ontwikkel. Musiek laat 'n kind meer positief voel enn verander sommer jou gemoed en hoe jy oor die lewe voel.

Wat ek verstaan met Vygotsky se zone van proksimale ontwikkeling is dat daar baie gebiede vir ontwikkeling is. Die gebied wat die naaste en in onmiddelike kontak met kinders is, het die grootste invloed op die kind se ontwikkeling. Hierdie ontwikkeling is onder andere die sielkundige ontwikkeling, emosionele ontwikkeling en sielkundige ontwikkeling.

Opsomming van die belangrikste aspekte van die volgende leerteorieë in die grondslagfase:

Erikson het gefokus op die sosiale ontwikkeling van 'n kind. Daar is agt fases wat gepaard gaan met hierdie teorie. Wanneer elke fase suksesvol voltooi word lei dit tot 'n positiewe en gesonde persoonlikheid en ontwikel 'n kind se persoonlikheid volgens sekere waardes. Die fase wat by 'n kind van 5 tot 12 jaar gaan is indunstrie vs minderwaardigheid. Op hierdie vlak het 'n kind se portuurgroep 'n groot invloed op die kind se selfbeeld. Die kind wil aanvaar word deur sy mede maats en ook geprys word vir prestasies wat hy/ sy behaal het.

Jean Piaget: Die pre-opporationele en konkreet-opporationele fase is waar grondslagfase leerders hulself bevind. By die pre-opporationele fase , leer leerders hoe om hulself uit te druk in die vorm van woorde. Hulle ervaar ook hoe die wêreld om hulle lyk. Hulle weet dat woorde dinge verteenwoordig of voorstel. In hierdie fase is dit nog nie vir leerders moontlik om logiese probleme op te los nie. In die konkreet-opporationele fase kan leerders logies oor konkrete probleme dink en die probleem op los. Hulle leer ook dat eienskappe van woorwerpe kan verskil maar bly een spesefieke voorwerp. Hier kan kinders ook aanvoel hoe mense oor sekere situasies voel.

Vygotsky: Hy fokus op die kultuur wat kognitiewe ontwikkeling kan beïnvloed. Hy fokus ook op die spesefieke taal van die kind wat bydra tot kognitiewe ontwikkeling. Volwassenes speel 'n baie belangrike rol in die oordrag van die kutuur en die taal.

Wat 'n rowwe week. Ons het verhuis en met al die pakkery en uitpakkery is dinge maar lekker deurmekaar. Maar tog skyn die son altyd weer die volgende dag.

My kennis om musiekvaardighede en bewegin te inkorporeer het ek waargeneem by my mentor onderwyser. Ek het die voorreg gehad om waar te neem hoe sy musiek konsepte met behulp van beweging wat deur die leerders uitgevoer word. Ek het nog nie self so 'n les beplan nie, maar het goeie hulp en 'n goeie voorbeeld gehad.

Ek verkies fisiese opvoeding in die grondslagfase omdat ek weet dat dit van uiterste belang vir kinders is om gesond en fiks te wees. Om fisies te verkeer kan ook tot die verbetering van akademiese prestasie lei.

My naam is Danica Bakker. Ek is 24 jaar oud en het 'n groot passie vir die lewe. Beide my ouers is onderwysers en ek het van 'n jong ouderdom af gesien hoe my ouers hulle passie uitleef. Natuurlik het dit my oorreed om onderwys te studeer.

Ek werk by 'n skool as onderwysstudent en geniet dit vreeslik baie. Ek het 'n groot passie vir kinders en wil graag 'n verskil in alle leerders se lewe maak. Ek het besef dat onderwys baie werk is en dat mens al jou energie gebruik. Ek geniet dit om die glimlagte van kinders elke dag te sien.

Een van my stokperdjies is om te bak en brou. Ek sal graag 'n bak en brou aktiwiteit by my skool wil begin. Ek is sportief en geniet dit om sport af te rig. Ek oefen dan sommer saam met die leerders ook. Hulle geniet dit as ek saam met hulle aktiwiteite uitvoer. Ek sien baie uit vir hierdie vak en het ook 'n passie vir musiek. Musiek kan baie keer 'n leerder se uitkoms wees om hom of haarself uit te druk.
